Lucida Fonts?

While checking Zulu 8 for differences to Oracle SE I noticed that Oracle JDK ships some Lucida TTFs while Zulu does not. Is this OK (it seems like the font config does use lucida at least as some fallbacks). I havent seen problems however I want to avoid customer reports suddenly beeing build with other fonts when doing the switch. I think that Windows comes with Lucida, so it might not be needed? What about on Linux?

Hi, ecki.
Due to licensing limitations we can’t put commercial fonts into an open-source product. To address that there is a separate compatibility kit, which provides fonts under different license and can be found here: https://www.azul.com/products/zulu-and-zulu-enterprise/cck-downloads/

P.S.: I would love to see results of your comparison. Have you posted them anywhere?

It is not published (yet), but I wanted to write something in my blog about it. I basically did:

– compare the existance of files
– compare content of java.security file
– compare public methods of rt.jar (with japicmp) – and the other JARs

The first one resulted in the font files missing, the last point resulted in the xpointer classes (and some commercial stuff like 2d draw, color management, usage tracker)…
